We are in the eve of celebrating 72nd Indian Independence day today. As everyone is used to, I too logged in the social media expecting profile pictures dipped in tricolor. But was shocked to see so many black displays. The reason they quoted also seemed to be logical. These people are the online warriors who never fail to raise voice against any social evil happening, but interestingly only on internet and not on ground reality.
Quoted reasons of regret:
The reason behind their display pictures being painted with black is that they found no reason to celebrate Independence day when the country is being thrashed by so much of social evils. Corruption is looting every common man while unemployment is placing engineers in every work position except engineering. Essential needs like education and health are commercialised while rape and murder are shaking the country’s nuke and corner.
So these social media warriors regret to celebrate the I-day and as a sign of protest chosen black color instead of tricolor. If we quote it as an insult to our country’s pride by showing article 51A(a), they are inturn arguing it as their fundamental right to freedom of thought and expression by showing article 19(1)(a). It is all game of our constitution, providing opportunities to all.
Know the past to understand the present:
Nowadays, to talk about privacy, freedom of expression etc have become more of a fashion than being fundamental rights. A day of a youth starts and ends within the social media. It feels good to see people strongly reacting to pricking issues on web but is it the right response? Definitely not!
Youth should be aware that the freedom they are enjoying today was not obtained so easily as a cake walk. Behind it lies, so many stories of how selflessly people bleeded to death, even when they were aware that they are not going to taste the fruit of their sacrifice. Indian independence was not a gift by British to us, after spending centuries of vacation in India. It is the greatest achievement attained by our freedom fighters after shedding sweat and blood.
Realise the responsibilities on you:
I totally agree with the above said reasons to regret the state of our country. But a very big question arises that who is responsible for it. People may answer blindly that persons involving in all criminal activities are the reason and it may just end as a blame game. I would deny that and strongly say that we all are equally responsible.
Yes.Corruption is not only about taking bribe but also giving it, a significant part which is missed in most of the discussions. Unemployment is a myth where India being the country holding highest number of work force. Problem lies with unavailability of skilled people matching the available jobs, a big thanks to the mechanized educational system.
And as far as the increasing rate of rape which placed India at a lower position in a recent survey for the safest places of the world for women, its again the society is to be blamed. The environment where these criminals are brought up has taught them that being deviant is no big wrong. Instead existing stereotypes preach that dressing of women being the reason. How far it holds true in the recent chennai horror where a 12 yr kid who is not mentally stable was abused horribly by 17 beasts under the mask of humans.
Society:
The society built by us is giving space and reasons for such social evils to happen. So just likes and shares in social media are not going to solve these problems. Youth being the greatest weapon in the earth should get down to the ground and voice out against all issues. The I-day may not be apt for celebrating but definitely not a day to regret too. Instead it is a day of reminder to us, to make us realise about our duties.
Jai Hind !
