On 15th of August we are going to celebrate the 71st Independence day, cherishing the bravery and sacrifice of our freedom fighters. Independence day is not all about hoisting tricolor and distributing sweets. It is a big day to remember the struggle our forefathers led because of which we are leading an independent and dignified life. Also, it is the perfect day, to remind ourselves about our duty towards our motherland.
Colonialism is a greed of few
In modern days, we are terming the world as a global village because the products produced in various parts of the world is now accessible to everyone. This set up is man-made and deliberately done without choice. But in earlier days, the same scenario where every resource was available to every human, was the greatest gift by the nature to the earth.
Being Marxian at this moment, I would state that human’s desire for private property in the course of civilization, became the reason for historical invasions and war for kingdoms. If it was for land, power, and prestige, the modern day colonialism started as a search for resources and market for trade. History speaks how a few greedy tradesmen who sailed the world around, later turned out to be the conquerors of their market destinations with the royal support. India too faced this in the 17th century.
How India stands unique in the history of independence of world countries:
American war of independence in 1776 was the first mass revolution against colonial domination. This was followed by many revolutions for freedom, both before and after Indian independence in 1947. What places India unique among these struggles is the strategy of Ahimsa-non violence! Believed to be impossible yet followed successfully by our freedom fighters.
Nonviolence being the core and satyagraha being the strongest weapon, we achieved the independence at the dawn of 15th August. There is no wonder about it because India is a divine and which stood with utmost tolerance, spanning all invasions and conquers. Our leaders sowed their blood which turned out to be a beautiful paradise now and made our lives heavenly.
With freedom of rights comes the duties
As we are enjoying the fruit of sacrifice done by our leaders, we should realize that there is a huge and novel responsibility for safeguarding the essence of their selfless struggle. Fundamental rights are always accompanied by fundamental duties. Social evils like corruption, communalism, casteism, degrading women and most prickly the abuse of children in recent times is shaking the valuable foundation laid by our freedom warriors.
If we get down to find out the triggering point of these evils, we are left out only with a blame game, where one person is pointing out to the other and tries to escape by justifying it. So many legislations and measures had been figured out all these years but no big change is visualized. Best and foremost solution to end these evils will be the strong practice of self-morality. So on this great day of independence, lets all pledge to be self-disciplined and big proud and prosperity to our mother nation.
